Miloš Karadaglić Heartstrings

Client: Isis Productions for Deutsche Grammophon

In early 2011 The UK’s Daily Telegraph newspaper claimed, “The Classical Guitar has a new hero”.  That man is the 29 year-old Miloš Karadaglić from Montenegro.  “I want to wake this instrument from hibernation”, he says.  With his second recording for Deutsche Grammophon, he is well on his way to doing just that.

Heartstrings tells the story of how Miloš got to this point in his career.  He grew up in the war-torn former Yugoslavia.  When he was eight, he found a battered old guitar in his parents bedroom and started to play, eventually heading to London to study at the Royal Academy of Music. Graduating, he was eventually signed to a major record label, and remains passionate about getting his instrument more widely recognised.

Miloš’s inimitable story (a Montenegrin playing classical guitar) will be told as we follow him across the globe promoting his second recording ”Latino” to press and industry acolytes, and we will also see him play to his fans and to his rapidly growing audience.  This is a man on the cusp of mass popularity – the new album went in at No. 2, while the first album is still at No.6.

We contrast Miloš playing in traditional classical music venues like the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam with places more associated with pop music such as Joe’s Pub in New York.  The film culminates with Miloš’s debut solo performance at The Royal Albert Hall in London.

Interwoven with this personal story is the story of classical guitar itself and the land most associated with the guitar, Granada in Spain.  With Miloš as a guide we discover how this most popular of musical instruments is relatively unknown to the world in the classical repertoire.

This is a not only a mesmerizing visual portrait of an artist, but also an exploration of his art form, a film which will explore the mindset and outlook of this bright, new talent who is bringing new audiences to this traditional form. This film is a unique insight into an artist aware of his instrument’s history and who is at the height of his powers bringing obvious pleasure to his growing hoards of fans while also bringing unexpected joy to the uninitiated.
